How to Unlock Computer If I Forgot Windows Password?

Problem: I Forgot My Windows Password, How to Unlock It?

What should I do if I forgot my Windows password? A few days ago, I have changed my password and now I cannot remember it any more. I am the only user with the administrator account. How could I log into my computer again?

Have you ever met with the similar trouble? It seems to be a universal phenomenon that users forgot Windows password with different reasons. The following is the collection of Windows password forgotten problems.

BIOS password or Windows password? The former you can usually reset by opening the case and following the directions to clear the CMOS settings. The latter is harder. You may be able to create a new, non-passworded account using your Windows XP CD, but you might not be able to access some of the files owned by the passworded account. In market you can get programs that are supposed to crack Windows passwords, but I haven't tried them. They go for around $40.

For windows xp, there is a separate hidden account called administrator. The easiest way to access it is to go into safe mode. You do this by tapping F8 just after the self test, and before windows starts to load. Once on the start up menu choose safe mode. Click on the administrator account. From there you can change any passwords in the control panel under user accounts. You do not have to know any of the passwords to change them.

To fix lost password in Windows XP, first start PC and press <F8> to bring up Boot options menu. Choose to boot into "Safe Mode". You will not be asked for a password in Windows XP when you boot to Safe Mode. Then Click <Start> then <Run>. In the <Run> box type "nusrmgr.cpl" and hit <Enter>. The windows user account control should start. From there, just open your account and delete the password. Close out everything and Restart to normal. Your password is now gone.

Reset Forgotten Windows Password with A Third Party
To resolve these problems, you can simply change or reset forgotten Windows password with a Windows password reset disk. A password reset disk is a flash drive configured with your current when you ever forget it. It acts as a key to unlock the account. But the problem is that we often forgot to create a password reset disk and cannot log on computer with any user account.
Another common solution is to use a third party software, just take any windows password unlocker from internet. It can help you remove lost Windows password including Windows administrator, user and domain password on Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000/2003(R2)/2008(R2), etc. with a bootable CD/DVD or USB flash drive in hand.

How to Start: Steps to Unlock Forgotten Windows Password
The following is a guide on how to unlock computer with a USB flash drive when forgot Windows login password. It is very easy to use and just takes less than 5 minutes.
Note: Things you need to prepare in advance:
A bootable USB flash drive
A good mood for password reset
A few minutes to wait for password recovery

Step 1: Download and install Windows Password Unlocker Professional in any computer that can run as administrator.(an bootable CD/DVD is also available)

Step 2: Start the application and insert the USB flash drive in computer and select your target USB flash drive, and then click the Burn button to start burning.

Step 3: Click OK when burning process is completed, and take the USB flash drive out of computer.

Step 4: Insert the burned USB flash drive to your locked computer and set the computer to boot from USB.

Step 5: Select the specified Windows account you want to recover, and then click Reset button.

Step 6: Click Yes to continue, and click OK when password has been successfully reset.

Next time, if you lost Windows local password or administrator password, you can follow the steps above to reset Windows password. Of course, do not forget to create a password reset disk when you can log on computer again.

First way

Reboot your machine.
Press F8 before the Windows boot screen appears.
Do not press F5 as used on the NT/9x series of Windows.
You will be be prompted with a boot options menu.
Select the Start Windows in Safe Mode option.
Click through several self-explanatory screens until your reach the familiar 'Welcome' screen.
Note that this welcome screen is limited to 256 colors and 640x480 resolution because the primary graphics will have been set to the Windows Safe Mode software VGA adapter. You will not be able to change this mode even in Display options, while Windows is running in Safe Mode.
Find the icon for the Administrator user. If the default settings of your system haven't been changed, there should be no password for this account.
The Safe Mode Welcome screen might display some of the other users on your system.

Login as the admin.

Press Yes at the prompt asking if you would like to continue using Safe Mode.
Continue on to the User Settings control panel. Here you can change any of the other passwords for user on the machine. Make any changes you want.
Reboot your computer. As long as you don't press any keys (i.e. F8) during the boot-up the computer will startup normally.
Login as the user for which you set the password.
If it doesn't work above , you can try to use windows password reset 6.0 or OPHCrack (for free)
to crack your windows password  without erasing anything.

Second way

Login to a computer that can connect to the Internet. DownloadWindows Password Reset Tool and decompress it on that PC. Note that there is an .ISO file. Burn the .ISO file to a CD.
Get out the newly created CD and insert it into the locked computer.
Reboot the locked computer and then follow the process of instructions. Just a few steps, the old password was removed.
Setting new password:
Step one: Open the "Control Panel"
Step two: Click the "User Account "
Step three: Select the account you want to set a new password.
Step four: Click "changing Account " and "set up password", then fill out the form as listed. Click "Create Password".
Thus, you have a personal login ID and Password, anyone has no right to login to your computer without this info.

Third way

Open Command Prompt. If you don't know how, open the Start menu, go to Programs (or on Windows 2000 and up, all programs), go to Accessories, then you'll see Command Prompt, click it.
You'll see a black screen pop up.
Type in: "Net User"
It will then show you a detailed little chart of all the User Accounts on the computer.
Choose which account you want to hack.
Say it says the user accounts are: Owner, Administrator, Bob, suzy, Christopher, and Guest.
You choose Suzy (Say you wanted to annoy your wife or girlfriend, I told you this would be a useful guide ;-) ).

Now type: "Net User suzy", it'll give you A LOT of information about the account. This step isn't necessary, but it gives you information on other things you can do to the account, such as set it as inactive and delete it.
Type in: "Net User suzy *" It'll tell you to enter a password, then again to confirm it. This will both change the password or make a new one.
Good Job! You've actually hacked an account! Now if suzy says anything, good luck with that.

There are various utilities that enable a user to gain access to a computer they have forgotten the password to, below is a listing of some of the more popular utilities available.

Log into an alternate account

Often many users will leave the administrator account alone or have other accounts with administrator rights. If you're not logging into the computer as administrator or have other accounts follow the below steps to reset your other accounts password.

Reboot the computer into Safe Mode.

When logging into Safe Mode you should be prompted with an option to what account you wish to use. Select the Administrator account. If prompted for a password try pressing Enter on the keyboard for no password. If this does not work, try other passwords you may have used. If you're unable to log into the Administrator account skip to the next suggestion.
Once you've logged into the Administrator account open Control Panel and User Accounts.

In User Accounts select the account you wish to change the password for, click change password and then enter the new password or click remove the password to remove the password from the account.
Windows XP users and Prevent a forgotten password option
If you have Windows XP (or above) and have gone through the "prevent a forgotten password option" and have created a diskette, use the diskette created to recover the forgotten password.
Prevent a forgotten password in Windows XP.
Offline NT Password & Registry editor

The offline NT password & registry editor is a great utility that enables users to overwrite their Windows NT, 2000, and XP SAM file, the file containing their passwords, with a new password. This will not allow a user to view their previous password, however, it will allow the user to gain access to their unencrypted files again.
This utility is free and can be found on the below link.

Emergency Boot CD

In addition to several other features, the EMCD, or Emergency Boot CD, is capable of changing the passwords of any user, including the administrator password in Windows NT, 2000, and XP without needing to know the previous password.
This utility is free and can be found on the below link.

Other utilities
There are numerous other free and commercial utilities available for bypassing or changing an unknown password in Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, and XP. The above two utilities are the more popular solutions and are highly recommended. If these utilities do not suit your needs, you may also want to perform a quick search on your favorite search engine
Data recovery
If you have tried the above suggestions and are unable to gain access to the files you need to access, some data recovery companies may be able to access your data

Format and reinstall Windows on the computer

Finally, if after the above steps you are still unable to gain access to your computer, or if you are unable to use any of the above utilities, unfortunately, your only alternative to getting access to your computer would be to erase everything on the computer and reinstall Windows. Any data you need access to will need to be restored from your backups.
